West Coast March 2011
This was in informal trip that was a lot of fun for those involved. The highlight was catching albacore tuna, also blue cod were abundant.
The lads even got some crayfish from some generous west coasters.
Kaikoura 2010-2011
Always an enjoyable destination (as long as you don't capsize) with a variety of fish species around. Some of us deployed craypots at Waipapa bay in addition to the rod and reel fishing.
Cass bay - December 2010 meeting
We normally have our meetings at PaddlerZone, but this time we tried out some kayaks at Cass bay instead.
PaddlerZone provided a variety of kayaks for us to check out. If you're looking for a new kayak, you can hire a variety of them from PaddlerZone to help you find the one that's right for you.
Shag Point - October 2010
We went to Shag Point for Labour weekend, and the fishing was very good. Conditions were great most of the time and blue cod and trumpeter were plentiful.
A great weekend overall - Good accommodation, good company, good fishing.
Guest speakers - August 2010 meeting
For our August meeting we had some guest speakers - Expert NZ kayakfisherman Shamus Brickland, and Simon from Johnson Outdoors.
They provided us with a wealth of information, it was fantastic being able to draw on Shamus' vast kayaking experience, and to hear how they do things up north.
Okiwi bay November 2009
We all split into groups and headed out clipping onto the large buoys deploying some burley and the bites were instant mostly small snapper and spotties cleaning the bait. Blue cod on the menu for all taking home our limits and Richard taking the largest blue cod for the day. The secret with fishing round mussel farms is to keep moving along the lines at 5m-10 metres each time otherwise bait will be chewed up with unwanted species.
Sunday morning had us on the water at 8.30am with many of us nursing sore heads, sun was shining 5knot head wind and a long paddle out to the mussel farms to the right of Okiwi bay fishing was slow Craig caught a teraki and several members saw kingies chasing bait fish close to the surface and beneath their kayaks a fantastic sight to see. Dean, Ollie and I moved off to a reef with Ollie taking the catch of the day 5lb snapper. I would recommend this trip to anyone who is keen on fishing, there is a camp ground and several holiday homes available to stay at.
Te Oka Bay April 18- 2009
A Damn good day out at Te Oka Bay, after a 4k paddle Ollie had us fishing over his trumpeter spotx. Ollie anchored and clipped onto his yak burley was deployed and the fishing exploded fantastic to catch so much fish alot was under size but the action never died. A couple of big conger eels and Ollie had one at the surface that was at least 5ft long 200mm thick looked like a serpent. I hooked onto something really big and thought i was winning the fight when oops we are getting towed, I wish that I had unclipped from Ollies yak and worn the fish out but instead I let it take about 40-50mtrs of 25lb line and ping that was it, you learn from your mistakes.
